GDRRA Recycle Here Saturday Mobile Recycling Recicla Aqui
In January 2007 The Greater Detroit Resource Recovery Authority (GDRRA) and
Recycle Here restructured and expanded the City of Detroit’s recycling program. After one year 685,252 pounds of recyclable materials was processed through the program and over 10,000 Detroit residents participated.
Fixed Location Recycling Operations
Twice a week the fixed location at 1331 Holden is open every Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. excluding holidays. Recycle Here provides operations staff; collection containers; customer assistance; coordination for recyclables pick-up or delivery to bulk facilities; and maintenance and cleaning of their surrounding area.
On each Wednesday and Saturday for the fixed recycling facility as designated above Recycle Here accepts and coordinate the recycling of brown and clear glass; high density polyethylene (HDPE) Plastic (#1 and #2); household metals; corrugated cardboard and paper.
Mobile Facilities
Once a week one to two of the seven mobile facilities will be open. Eastern Market 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (1st Saturday of the month), Corktown 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. & East English Village 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (2nd Saturday of the month), Rosedale 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. & Palmer Park 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (3rd Saturday of the month), and Creekside 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and Clark Park 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (4th Saturday of the month). One or two mobile facility will be operated each Saturday of the month excluding holidays. The Recycle Here provides operations staff, mobile recyclables collection containers, customer assistance, coordination for recyclables pick-up or delivery to bulk facilities, and maintenance and cleaning. Each mobile facility as designated above accepts and coordinate the recycling of brown and clear glass, high density polyethylene (HDPE) Plastic (#1 and #2); household metals, corrugated cardboard and paper.
These recycling programs provide friendly and professional direction, guidance, and assistance for participants depositing recyclables during operating hours. Literature is being distributed to include guidelines for proper preparation of recyclables. Zip codes are also being recorded of participants dropping off recyclables to gather statistics to analyze the program for future needs.
Other Recycling Efforts
Residents of the City of Detroit will be able to dispose of Recyclable items (tin cans, plastics, newspapers, household batteries, Styrofoam, glass containers, etc.) at 3 of the City's designated Bulk drop off sites. The sites that will accept recyclable materials are:
- Davison Yard - 8221 West Davison
- Southfield Yard - 12255 Southfield Service Drive
- State Fair Yard - 19715 John R.
Hours of operations:
- SUMMER (April-October) 8:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m., Tuesday – Saturday
- WINTER (November-March) 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m., Tuesday – Saturday
The Southfield Yard is open Monday - Saturday. All locations are closed from noon - 1 p.m. These drop-off locations are open to Detroit residents only with proper identification.
